Reveau Bassett's exposure to art began at the age of twelve when he started going on sketching trips with Frank Reaugh. He studied at the National Academy of Design with Charles Courtney Curran, and also at the Art Students League where he was taught by William Robinson Leigh. Bassett is widely known for his paintings of ducks and other migratory birds. This is an especially fine early impressionist painting of that genre.
