Trillium Antique Prints & Rare BooksFranklin, TN, USJanuary 04, 2020

Item Overview

Description

This pair of hand-colored etchings shows the features of a falcon, with one depicting its face and body from the torso up and the other a close-up of its claws on one leg. They were completed by Renz Waller in 1967.

Renz Waller was a German painter and falconer who, in 1942-43, became the first person to successfully breed a peregrine falcon in captivity, in Dusseldorf, Germany. In 1937, he published a book called Der Wilde Falk ist Mein Gesell [The Wild Falcon is My Companion], which has since been released in many editions.

In addition to his falconry, Waller was an animal painter, who studied at the Dusseldorf Art Academy under Julius Paul Junghanns. Many of his works are now in the German Hunting Museum in Munich.
