Item Overview

Description

"EVA (DEVA)" Skulptur- Volumen, Bronze H: 185 cm, Lebensgroße Plastik der EVA (DEVA genannt) fertiggestellt 1958. Unikater Guss. Provenienz: Privatsammlung Brandenburg | "EVA (DEVA)" sculpture volume, bronze height: 185 cm, life-size sculpture EVA (called DEVA) is called 1958, unique cast History of plastic: Every well-known film company has a screen signet, whatever Metro-Goldwin-Meyer the roaring lion or "Mos Film" the worker and peasant duo. The DEFA is with Hans Klering's stylized positive negative film image. One morning at the end of the 1970s, the current "Marlene Dietrich Halle" decided to create another female person. Cast in bronze, she looked naked and unabashed at the controversial DEFA team and died when openness was still taboo in GDR films. A stage worker lovingly baptized you our DEVA and others hung a warming sackcloth over your shoulder in the frosty winter. In the early, golden film fifties, when 300 million cinema-goers were counted in the GDR alone, DEFA also belonged to the culture and social fund via the means with which the material, even less thoughtful, visual artists are collegially supported. The sculptor, painter and graphic artist Rene Graetz was commissioned to create a sculpture that is appropriate to the times and films. He, who also created the main group "Liberation" of the Sachsenhausen memorial, rights himself for a self-confident, life-affirming young woman as a symbol of liberation from inequality of all kinds. So you stand in the garden of the DEFA guest house in Babelsberger Stubenrauchstrasse with a limitless view of the Griebnitzsee. With the construction of the wall, the sculpture has to be removed overnight. It has been forgotten and has to be vacated. By chance she was saved from a shameful end in a nearby junkyard. Carefully bathed and tried, it get a second life. The DEVA survived the DEFA. Source reference: book Die nackte DEVA. In 2008 DEVA come to a new owner through the Eichelkraut auction house in Potsdam. We thank the daughter of Rene Graetz (Kunstarchiv Graetz und Shaw GmbH) for confirming the authenticity of the sculpture. A written confirmation is enclosed. provenance: private collection, Brandenburg
