Description

Vers 1960. H : 60 cm White marble free form sculpture standing on a wooden base. Signed Collamarini. Circa 1960. H : 23 2/3 in. René Collamarini (1904-1983) lived all his life in Paris and discovered his vocation to be a sculptor at a very young age. In 1921 he joined Jean Boucher's studio at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris. He especially preferred carving rather than modelling and collaborated throughout his life with architects on often monumental works of art so as bring joy and beauty to all. He enjoyed working on white or grey marble, ebony and mahogany and brought light and weightlessness to his work by the clever placing of his dancers, acrobats, women, animals, couples... The sculpture that we are presenting illustrates his capacity to harmonise curves so as to reveal the emotion of an enlaced couple whilst leaving aside too many details and keeping to the essential simplicity of expression, gentleness and poetry.
