Lot 15: Red Nude

Est: $17,000 CAD - $0 CAD
Vancouver Art GalleryVancouver, BC, CAFebruary 19, 2011

Item Overview

Description

Shawn Hunt is known for combining non-traditional ideas with innovative use of materials and motifs in his work. In Northwest Coast Native art, the human figure tends not to be the sole focus in the artwork. Instead the human form is usually abstracted, a secondary design element, or part of a larger narrative involving crests such as raven, eagle and killer whale. Red Nude is comprised of formline and traditional design elements to make up the figure, while the skin is actually real wood from the panel beneath. The artist holds a diploma in studio art from Capilano College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of British Columbia.
