Description

Oblong folio: half title, engr. title, lettered title, 43 pp.; 72 pl. (foxing sp. on the edges). - Second ed. (1st 1801) of this imposing set illustrated (complete) with a headpiece engr. by Lacour and 72 numb. etchings after Percier (1764-1838) and Fontaine (1762-1853), seen as "the" most representative creators of the Empire style. Napoleon appointed them as his personal architects, and they were associated with all the architectural achievements of his reign and spread the Empire style throughout Europe. The plates depict vases, tripods, candelabras, chandeliers, candlesticks, fireplaces, fires, stoves, clocks, tables, etc. and some represent projects executed for the Emperor, the Tuileries, the Malmaison... but also for houses in Spain, Sweden, Russia, Poland etc. - Ref. Recueil de dispositions et de décorations intérieures comprenant des modèles pour toutes les industries d'ameublement et de luxe [...]. 84 planches [...]. Paris, Goupil, Vibert et Cie [London, Gambart, Junin], [ca. 1840-1850]]. Large folio: 72 (of 84) pl. pasted on Chinese paper and protected by tissue guards (4 prelim. lvs i.e. title, table and introduction missing, some foxing). Contemp. three-quarter red shagreen, shagreenish red fabric on boards, spine with raised bands, yellow endpapers, one issue wrapper preserved (leather soiled, edges worn, lower board partly faded). First part complete with 72 plates; the 2nd consists of 12 plates. The complete work was published in 18 issues. Ref. Auction - Terms of sale

The purchaser shall pay, strictly cash, the hammer price, in €, together with a premium of 25 %, eventually plus the resale tax, if applicable: 4 % for hammer prices from € 2000 on, only for original art and if the author died less than 70 years ago.
The auction follows the order indicated by the catalogue. The biddings start at about 80 % of the lowest estimate and each bid must be +/? 10% higher than the previous one. In case of a dispute the lot will be called again.
The auctioneer has the right to refuse a bid, and this without further explanation.
Each buyer by making a bid acknowledges the conditions of sale and the fact that he has inspected the purchased item.
The auctioneer has the right to split a lot or join several lots.
Lots with two or more titles, series or periodicals, or lots with a mention "n.c." and 'sold w.a.f.'are not collated and cannot be returned.
Each buyer is supposed to buy for his own account and cannot claim any commission. Each bidder should inspect the lots during the exhibition. Under no circumstances can an item, once sold, be returned. For lots bought via a bidding order remarks or complaints, also concerning the authenticity of the items, should be formulated within 2 weeks after the auction. After that delay no item can be returned.
