Rankin, born in Glasgow in 1966, launched the challenging new fashion and style magazine Dazed and Confused with Jefferson Hack in 1991. Their aim was to bring fashion and its photography into a more authentic, less precious arena. In the brief editorial note to the premier issue of a later publishing venture Rank, the photographer gave a pithy analysis of his own status when describing the magazine as '...the cheeky younger brother of fashion.' The tone was set by a close-cropped cover headshot of Kate Moss, champion of 'street' fashion -- in black and white but akin in its impactful simplicity to the present image.

Number one from the sold-out edition of one.
