Notes

Painted circa 1885-1888.

The model of the present work is Aline Mason, the daughter of the Marquis of Casa Riera's concierge. Aline was Madrazo's favorite model, and appeared often in his works.

Although Spanish by birth, Madrazo spent most of his life in Paris, where he developed a style that was inherently French. His interest in depicting beautiful women, dressed in the height of fashion, captured the essence of the Belle-Epoque.
