QUEVEDO Y VILLEGAS, Francisco Gómez de (1580-1645). El Parnasso español y musas castellanas. Madrid: Pablo de Val, a costa de Mateo de la Bastida, 1659. 4° (191 x 132mm). Engraved frontispiece by Juan de Noort and 5 full-page engraved illustrations by Herman Panneels after D.J.A. and Alonso Cano (Frontis. trimmed at foremargin, white dust affecting illustrations slightly, frequent mends to margins and tears through text, with some loss on Bb6, Cc8 and Hh1, slight paper fault on Y2v.) Green morocco by Brugalla, 1945, gilt supralibros, turn-ins and edges. Provenance: bought from Antonio López, 1944.

Fifth edition, the frontispiece showing Quevedo with the nine Castilian muses. The poems were not published in his own lifetime but assembled posthumously by his friend Jusepe Antonio González de Salas who published six muses (i.e. parts) in 1648. The three final muses were published by the poet's nephew, Pedro Aldrete Quevedo, in 1670. The 17th-century editions are all of great rarity. NO COPY OF THIS EDITION IN BNE.
