QIU YING (ATTRIBUTED TO, CIRCA 1495-1552) THE HAN JUN VILLA AMIDST BAMBOO GROVES Handscroll, ink and color on silk Signed by the artist One seal of the artist Five colophons by the artist's contemporaries: a long poem by Zhou Tianqiu (1514-1595, father-in-law of the owner of the Han Jun Villa) describing the scenery around the villa; an essay by Zhang Wei (16th century) on the Han Jun Villa and its owner, Wu Yu, whose pseudonym was also Han Jun (or "Han bamboo"); followed by two poems by Quan Tianxu (16th century) and Shen Shiheng (1535-1614); and the last is an essay by Zhang Na (19th century), in which he stated that Wu Yu was the son-in-law of Zhou Tianqiu; with a total of ten seals. Title slip by Zhao Shuru (1847-1945), dated renwu year (1882), with one seal 11 5/8 x 63 5/8 in. (29.5 x 161.5 cm.)
