Born in Germany in 1947, Simcha Shirman was brought to Israel in 1948. In 1976, Shirman received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York and in 1978, he received his MFA from the Pratt Institute, New York. Honored with a number of grants and awards, Shirman participated in numerous group exhibitions and has also held several solo exhibitions in Israel and abroad, including one at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem (1988) and two different exhibitions at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in 1986 and in 2004-5. In 1999 Simcha Shirman represented Israel in the Venice Biennale.
