Notes

Born in Israel in 1967, Ohad Meromi lives and works in Tel Aviv. He studied Art at the Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem and then at Hunter College, New York for his MFA. His one-person exhibitions include those at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem (together with Avner Ben Gal in 1995) and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art (1999).Sarit Shapira discusses Meromi's work and notes: "One of the common forms in Ohad Meromi's work is a hermetic construction, reminiscent of the 'shrines' of the modernist utopian pavilions. Meromi's pavilions actually present what they could not be: neither the European utopian pavilion, nor just a banal architectural form. As models of negation they remain a proposal for structuring a local modernist abstraction, while also serving as suggestions to update the modernist discourse of abstraction through Israeli local forms." (Sarit Shapira, Transfer/Chilufim Israel NRW 2001-2003).
