Notes

Tel Aviv artist, Nahum Tevet is a native of Kibbutz Mesilot. Born in 1946, he studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem and his frequent exhibitions include those at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, the 8th Documenta in Kassel (1987), the 4th Biennial of Contemporary Art in Lyon (1997), Carnegie International 99-00 (1999) and the 2003 Venice Biennial exhibition "Individual Systems". "Tevet creates complexity in his sculptures by fragmenting the linear passage of the viewers' experience and multiplying the codes or levels of meaning to which the particular work alludes. Thus a single element often functions in a number of different points of view, referring to other art such as Constructivism and Minimalism, and drawing on the ordinary experience of furniture." (Michael Newman quoted in Nahum Tevet: Skulpturen, Städtische Kunsthalle, Mannheim and Neue Galerie, Sammlung Ludwig Aachen (exhibition catalogue), 1986-1987, p. 8).
