This is an early original photograph printed and signed by Lou Bernstein, from his private estate collection. Bernstein was a charter member of the Photo League in New York and was active in the organization from 1936 until it dis-banded in the early 1950s. Bernstein taught at The Phoenix School of Design, NY and at the request of W. Eugene Smith, took over Smith's classes at Cooper Union when Smith went to Japan to photograph for Life Magazine. Bernstein was known as "the photographer's photographer" by his colleagues and was an active photographer for more than sixty years. His work was included in Steichen's ground-breaking 'Family of Man' exhibition of 1955 and is found in numerous museum collections including the Museum of Fine Art, Houston; The Jewish Museum, NY; The Museum of Modern Art, NY; the International Center for Photography and the Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, AZ.
