PROVENANCE:
Broomhill House, Grantown-on-Spey

The falsely signed larger miniature bears a pen and ink on paper inscription, pasted on the verso: 'from the collection of the / Lochiel family / exhibited in the / Lochiel collection / in the Museum / Prince Charles Edward Stuart'.

The miniature showing Prince Charles in Highland costume, wearing the Orders of both the Garter and the Thistle, is a copy of the Highlander portrait by Robert Strange.

The miniature depicting the Prince wearing a breastplate and both the Orders of the Garter and the Thistle, is either a copy of the oil by Domenico Dupra or more probably a copy after the engraving of that portrait by J. Daulle.
