Description

PRID LASENBY (b.1909) Ingleborough, 1963, initialled and dated, titled to the reverse, oils on board, 19 1/2" x 39 1/2" Prid Lasenby was born in Assam in India in 1909. After studying at Cheltenham Art School, she gained admission to the Slade where she was taught by Henry Tonks. Following graduating she worked as a medical illustrator for a short time before starting an art teaching career. During the Second World War she moved out to Midhurst Green in Sussex, where she lived near and associated with the artists Ivon Hitchens and Eric Ravilious. Her work was obviously heavily influenced by these artists and can be seen in the works sold in this sale.
