Description

painted ca. 1830/40. Wounded Prussian drummer is led on horseback across a bridge by a peasant girl. In the background more infantrymen and horsemen. Szene from the Napoleonic Wars 1813/15, signed on the lower right "Rechlin". Oil on canvas, in gilded stucco frame, 21 x 23 cm.
Seal of the A.W.F. merchant's company on the stretcher, as well as an appraisal from a Museum in Polish language (Posen 1962).
Karl Rechlin worked as a painter in Berlin and was influenced by Franz Krüger. Cf. Thieme-Becker, Bd. XXVIII, S. 68.
