For Praneet Soi, painting may be interpreted as a means of delineating a physical, cultural and political terrain. Soi locates within the fragmentations caused by modernity, migration, progress and violence- processes born of imperial ambition, failed expectations and desire- a contemporaneous representation of the human body.
Living between Europe and India the artist comments upon the fragmentation that is the product of a post-global and politicized world. Having been influenced by the media-image, the artist is now '...trying to find a way of going beyond the narrative of such images, to find a way to use this lens for looking at, let's say, the landscape, or people... and extending this vision into a more subjective narrative.'
Fragmented in red is a comment upon the body as a symbol of this fragmented moment of modernity.

Praneet Soi is an alumnus of The Skowhegan school of Painting and Sculpture at Maine (2001).
He was resident artist at the Rijksakademie in 2002-2003.
