Item Overview

Description

RAOUL VION (DATES UNKNOWN) L'OISEAU DE FEU. Post 1910.
63 x 46 1/2 inches, 160x118 cm. G. Delattre & Cie., Paris.
Condition B+: vertical and horizontal folds.
Vion was a member of the Societé des Humoristés and was primarily known for his magazine illustrations. However, he also designed a few posters. Nothing is known about the aviator Poumet, except for this poster, which advertises his spectacular aerial pyrotechnic act "The Bird of Fire." The first monoplane took to the skies in 1909. And while this aviator and act are completely forgotten, the poster exists as a document of early aviation history. The poster promotes the airplane manufacturer Borel, the manufacturer of the engine Gnôme, and also mentions Chauvière, a pioneer in the production of airplane propellers.
