Artist or Maker

Notes

James Latham was an Irish artist, born in County Tipperary at the end of the seventeenth century and specializing in portraiture. He is known to have spent a term at the Guild of St. Luke in Antwerp in 1724, becoming a master of the Guild, and likely visited both London and Paris during his travels. Latham was the best native portrait painter in Dublin during his lifetime and his works are admired for their skillful brushwork coupled with a vivid palette.
