PAUL GAUGUIN (1881-1954) Portrait de Stéphane Mallarmé (Guérin 14; Mongan, Kornfeld, Joachim, and Stauffer 12) etching with drypoint and engraving printed in dark brown, 1891, on smooth heavy wove paper, the second (final) state, a rich impression, signed in ink, inscribed 'à l'ami Aurier au Poëte,' one of a few lifetime impressions (Guérin notes approximately 12, Mongan, et al. describe 10 of which half are signed and dedicated, this impression not described), printed by Delâtre for the artist, with large margins, pale mat staining, a few filled-in tack holes along the margin edges, minor creasing along the upper margin edge, otherwise in good condition, framed P. 7 3/16 x 5 5/8 in. (183 x 143 mm.) S. 13 x 9 7/8 in. (330 x 251 mm.)
