Count N. A. Samoilov was born in 1800. He served in the Preobrazhensky regiment and later served under A. P. Ermolov in 1817. In 1821 he became an aide-de-camp to Alexander I and in 1825 he married Countess Iulia Pavlovna von der Pahlen.
