Offered in Sotheby's, Amsterdam in 1980, with an attribution to Hendrick Martensz. Sorgh, this panel is in fact by the Delft born artist Pieter van Steenwijck, who painted still lifes, interiors and some genre subject pictures. He and his brother Harmen were pupils of their uncle D. Bailly at Leiden. He was a member of the Guild at Delft and active also in the Hague circa 1652-1654.
