Notes

OTHER PROPERTIES

Born into a famous Delft painters' family, Pieter Pietersz. Vromans became a member of the local Guild of St. Luke in 1635. Although there are three painters known with this name, Pieter Pietersz., the present was the father and teacher of still life painter Isaac Vromans (1655-1719). Known mainly as a landscape painter, VromansÂ? biblical paintings show a pronounced dependance on Leonaert BramerÂ?s (1596-1674) work of the 1630s. His use of a strong vermillion hue amidst a dark brown background also recalls the work of Jacob Willemsz. De Wet (1610-after 1675).
