Notes

Drawings by this short-lived but highly innovative Amsterdam artist are rare; the largest documented group, consisting of 15 drawings, was formerly in the Kunsthalle, Bremen, but 13 of those were either destroyed or stolen during World War II. The most similar in handling to this amongst the artist's other drawings is a signed and dated drawing of 1626, in the Albertina, Vienna.υ1 Both drawings confirm Santvoort's place as one of the more original landscape draughtsmen of early 17υth-century Holland. 1.
