Provenance

With Hallsborough Gallery, London, 1956; Anonymous sale ('The Property of a Gentleman'), London, Christie's, 21 April 1989, lot 54 (as Pieter de Ring) for £210,000; With Galerie d'Art St. Honoré, Paris (as Jan Davidsz. de Heem), from whom acquired by the present collector.

Notes

Though stylistically related to still lifes by Jan Davidsz. de Heem from the first years of the 1650s, this is in fact a fine work by Pieter de Ring as pointed out to us by Fred Meijer of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, to whom we are grateful. The lot is accompanied by the photostat certificate of Ingvar Bergstrom, dated 22 June 1989, attributing the painting in full to Jan Davidsz. de Heem.
