NOTE

Ogé was a regular Salon exhibitor from 1873 until 1911, just a few years before his death. Like his father, who was also a sculptor, Ogé retained strong links with his home town of Saint-Brieuc and executed a large number of monuments and architectural sculpture for municipal buildings in Brittany. On a smaller scale, Ogé achieved success with statuettes representing Marguerite from Gounod's opera Gaust (cast in four sizes by Susse), Virginie from the 1886 Salon, Graziella, Le Liere and Nymphe. The latter is probably identifiable with the present work.

Ogé trained under Carpeaux and won a number of mentions honourables at the Salon in the 1880's as well as medals at the Exposition Universelle in 1889 and 1900. He became professor of sculpture at the l'institution des Sourds-Muets de Saint-Brieuc, one of the leading charitable establishments of the départements des Côtes-du-Nord.
