This picture of the Countess is the first in a series of ten poses entitled Serie des roses. Two versions of series, showing the Countess in this distinctive ballgown, are in the collection of the Gilman Paper Company Collection, New York. One of these sets has scraps of paper pinned onto the photographs by the Countess indicating where they should be retouched. The five photographs in the following two lots are also from this series. These all appear to have been made from the negatives after the Countess had advised the studio as to how they should be retouched.
