PIERRE JACQUES VOLAIRE (TOULON 1729-1802 NAPLES), AND STUDIO The eruption of Mount Vesuvius oil on canvas 140 x 233cm (55 1/8 x 91 3/4in).

Provenance Private Collection, UK, since circa 1985 Volaire painted numerous versions of this subject, including one in Museo di Capodimonte, Naples, but the present work comes closest to the version with galerie Michael Descours, 2004 and now in a private collection.
