VARIOUS PROPERTIES
Conceived in 1965 and cast in an edition of 3. The present work is the first in the edition. In 1968, Phillip King described the significance of Point X in his development in the late 60s: 'There's a jump away from the concept of the cone... and towards new shapes which didn't have the kind of object definition that the cone has and which would allow me to open up more, to get more to grips with space. Point X is the beginning of this; it related back to Declaration in the sense that it uses very primary shapes like squares, circles, triangles, and in repeating rhythms. But suddenly the two pieces are separated - there's no longer a running axis through the centre. The axis is the lime colour moving around it.'
