Philip "Pussycat" Gudthaykudthay, (born 1935) is a senior artist living in Ramingining, Arnhemland. The present work relates to the theme of the Wagilag Sisters, where during Dreamtime, two giant ancestral pythons interact in the clouds, one of which falls to earth and forms a water hole, and a big wind blows across the land during dry season. Strong and traditional ceremonial themes are shown by the figurative aspects of the work. Philip Gudthaykudthay is widely held by Australian and international institutions and private collections and he has received extraordinary recognition by the Australian Council for the Arts.
