Philip Blacker (b.1949): A Bronze Group of a Recumbent Mare and Standing Foal, on a moulded base and wooden plinth, signed PB (19)94 and inscribed 4/9, 19cm h igh, 53cm long Provenance: Tryon Gallery, Animal Aspects in Bronze Exhibition, 1994 After a successful career as a steeplechase jockey, including coming third in the Grand National, and winning the Whitbread Gold Cup, Philip Blacker turned to sculpture in the mid 1970's and has become one of Britain's leading equestrian and sporting sculptors. Amongst his work are a number of full size bronzes of racehorses to be found at several of Britain's racecourses, including Red Rum at Aintree.
