Thereafter, Verschaffelt worked as court sculptor to the Kurfurst Carl Theodor in Mannheim, for whom he executed the sculptural decorations at Castle Benrath in 1761, the same year in which he was entrusted with the renovation of the choir of St. Bavo, Ghent.
