Perry Nichols was a master of many media, including pastel, watercolor, oil, egg tempera, fresco, gouache, and acrylic. In addition, he was an accomplished woodworker and furniture designer. Few of the Texas artists were adept in the medium of egg tempera. Nichols learned from Peter Hurd of New Mexico, one of the American masters in the medium. This painting uses the sgraffito technique where the top layer of color is "scratched" to reveal the color beneath.

The hand-painted and carved period frame is believed to be by Perry Nichols and original to the painting.

Excellent condition. Period frame in excellent condition.
