Notes

Percy Morton Teasdale was born in West Garforth, near Leeds. Teasdale studied at Leeds School of Art followed by Herkomer's Academy, Bushey and the Academie Julian, Paris. He taught art at Leeds and Harrogate Schools of Art whilst working in his own studio in Leeds. He was elected a member of the Staithes Art Club in 1905 and was the Vice President of the Yorkshire Union of Artists 1908-1912. He exhibited widely both locally and nationally.

This painting of a boy being taught to build a boat by an East coast fisherman captures the essence of the en plein air school of painting with a subject typical of the Staithes group.

Teasdale shared a studio with another Leeds artist, John Wood in Robin Hoods Bay.

Provenance: Purchased by relatives of John Wood from the Artist' Studio at Robin Hoods Bay.
