Artist statement: When asked what inspired a particular work, I usually have no answer. I am more conscious of color, design, and following my own sensibilities than I am of trying to bring a particular idea to life. I like to allow the viewer to seek and find his own meaning in the work. Italia IX is an abstract watercolor collage painted on archival Rives paper with professional transparent watercolor, enhanced with some silver leaf collage. Matted with museum matting, framed under Plexiglass in brushed silver frame. Signed lower right. Provenance Won the Best in Show/Wilber Meese Memorial Award in the Watercolor Society of Indiana Thirtieth Annual Exhibition held at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indianapolis, IN, October 14 to December 2, 2012. Exhibited at the National Watercolor Society Open Juried Exhibit 2013, Los Angeles Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA. The juror of Selection and Awards in the Watercolor Society of Indiana Exhibit, Cheng-Knee Chee wrote this about Italia IX: “The key to this painting is its subtle poetic quality. This artist stepped out of traditional representational mode and walked into the realis of intellectual questions. The painting plays with rectangular shapes, all of which are different sizes. This work might have hidden personal meaning that could be interpreted in different way by viewers. The artist shows a sensitive treatment of colors.”

Condition Report

Framed Note from Artist: No frames in my photos because my work is photographed as requested by exhibitions, museums and publications –framed to show off the art not as décor. They are framed archivally with wide museum board mating and simple brushed silver frames and under glass as recommended for exhibitions. Very difficult to photograph in total because of the glass and expanse of the mat.
