Notes

I've never thought of myself as masculine or feminine--the fact is, I am a woman, I see this world through my own eyes as it is. Sometimes, this is a very important standpoint. I care the most about the part that is deep down in one’s heart--there is no distinction between masculine and feminine within. I never wanted, and I tried my best not to create art that no one understands--I created the works because I wanted to get in touch with other lonely individuals.  Can you feel it?  Disregard the inadequateness, don’t take my works as art, but rather, treat them as people, then you will be able to approach them.
Xiang Jing, from an unpublished conversation, June 2008
