The grandson of the sculptor Pavlos Prosalentis and the son of Spiridon, Pavlos Prosalentis the Younger was raised in a family of artists. His early training was under the guidance of his father, a portrait painter. Like his brother Emilios (see preceding lots) who specialized in marine painting, Pavlos was fascinated by the sea, painting naval battles or ships, such as the present work, as well as portraits and genre paintings.
