Paul Ninas (American/New Orleans, 1903-1964) "Lilly Valley, Dominika, West Indies", 1929, oil on canvas, 28-3/4" x 36", titled, signed and dated on canvas verso. Framed. Provenance: Private collection, Pennsylvania. Note: Paul Ninas is one of New Orleans' best-known painters, graphic artists and decorators of the second quarter of the twentieth century. He completed formal studies at the Royal Academy in Vienna, the Beaux Arts Academy and in the atelier of Andre L'Hote. His experiences in Paris exposed him to the emerging modernist movement. This lush landscape was painted during Ninas' time in the West Indies. He spent several years there painting the native women and tropical landscapes, experiences that were similar to Paul Gaugin.
