Notes


Ralph Modjeski (1861-1940) immigrated from Poland to the United States where he became one of the preeminent bridge designers of the early 20th century. His projects, many of which were suspension bridges, included the McKinley Bridge across the Mississippi at St. Louis, the Broadway Bridge in Portland, Oregon and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.
