Notes

The photograph offered in this lot, as well as another print from the same negative in the Musée l'homme, Paris are respectively captioned "Woman of the Micmac tribe photographed in Newfoundland" and "Woman of the Micmac tribe. Newfoundland", however a third print in the National Archives of Canada, Ottawa is described, "Mi'kmaq (Micmac) woman on board the French naval vessel Sésostris, at the recoaling station, Sydney area, Nova Scotia". It is probable that this portrait was taken while Miot was posted at the Newfoundland naval station in Cape Breton rather than while he was physically in Newfoundland.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis
