On verso, there is an unfinished pencil and watercolour study of leaves by the artist. The inscription on this study, written by a previous owner, translates from the french as ""Precious souvenir from a young artist battling with life. Marguerite de Montigny Lafontaine, painter and sculptor, June 14, 1972.""
