Notes

Delance was a student of Gérome at the Beaux Arts and won many prizes including the gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1900 and was made Chevalier de Légion d'honneur in 1908. Many of his works are conserved in museums across France and his wife Julie Delance-Feurgard (1859-1892) was also trained by Gérome and Bonnat, though was perhaps better known in England and the U.S.A.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium, which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
