Notes

Kentucky artist Paul Plaschke became widely known first as a cartoonist and later as a regional American impressionist painter. Plaschke's political cartoons were published regularly in the Evening Post, Louisville Times, Life, Puck and Chicago Herald American. In 1905, his interest turned to painting landscapes. In this beautifully rendered painting "Spring Morning, Mobile Bay," Plaschke painted the lush Alabama countryside. Plaschke was a founder of both the Louisville Art Academy and the Speed Art Museum.
