Notes

John Ireland Blackburne (1783-1874), later of Orford Hall and Hale, was the son of John Blackburne (1754-1833) and his wife, Anne (d.1823) and became a Member or Parliament for Warrington and Newton. On 19th April 1781 he married Anne, daughter of William Bamford of Bamford, Lancs. John Ireland's sister, Mary, married George John Legh of High Legh Cheshire on 14th July 1803 and died 10th June 1856. His other sister, Anna, married Edwin Corbett, of Darnhall, Cheshire. His sisters, Elizabeth and Harriet (depicted in the second portrait included in this lot) died unmarried

A portrait of the Reverend T.Blackburne by Patrick McMoreland was sold at Christie's on 8th July 1987, lot 374. It was dated 1792 and similarly signed to the portrait of Harriet Blackburne included in the present lot
