Notes

Inspirés par le travail de l'ornemaniste Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier, chantre de l'art rocaille, ces deux flambeaux en bronze doré présentent une superbe qualité de ciselure et de dorure que l'on retrouve dans les plus belles réalisations du règne de Louis XV. Le fût est centré d'un renflement d'où s'échappent courbes et contrecourbes de feuillages pour former un cartouche. Il se prolonge par un binet en forme de tulipe. La base sinueuse et moulurée se divise en trois compartiments ponctués de rinceaux et de feuilles d'acanthe. Le génie rococo de Meissonnier est parfaitement exprimé dans cette paire de flambeaux, dont la nervosité du traitement du décor prend sa source dans un de ses plus célèbres modèles publié à la fin des années 1720 dans son ouvrage intitulé « Livre de chandeliers de sculpture en argent » . Les bronziers, devant le succès de l'AEuvre de l'ornemaniste, s'emparèrent de cette représentation de flambeau en y apportant souvent quelques variantes, à la recherche du plus bel effet. Le dessin et le décor de ces bougeoirs sont similaires à une paire de flambeaux datée vers 1735-1740 conservée au Rijksmuseum d'Amsterdam. On peut également les comparer aux bougeoirs conservés à la Wallace Collection de Londres où l'on observe un renflement du fût et un chantournement de la base très proche. L'asymétrie du dessin associée à une remarquable qualité de fonte, de ciselure et de dorure témoignent du grand art rocaille des bronziers du XVIIIe siècle.

Purchasers pay in addition to the hammer price, a buyer's premium from 0 to e 500 000:
25,20% (21 % + VAT).
For amounts superior to e 500 000: 19% (15,83% + VAT).
Lots from outside the EEC: (indentified by an*). In addition to the commissions and taxes indicated above, an additional import VAT will be charged (7% of the hammer price, 20% for jewelry).
For any member of the EEC, non assembled stones are liable to VAT 20%.
The auctioneer is bound by the indications in the catalogue, modified only by eventual announcements made at the time of the sale noted into the legal records thereof. Prospective bidders should inspect the property before bidding to determine its condition, size, and wether or not it has been repaired, restored or repainted. Exhibitions prior to the sale at Marc-Arthur Kohn or on the sale point permits buyers to establish the condition of the works offered for sale, and therefore no claims will be accepted after the fall of the hammer. Pictures may differ from actual product.

BIDS
Biddings will be in accordance with the lot numbers listed in the catalogue or as announced by the auctioneer, and will be in increments determined by the auctioneer. The highest and last bidder will be the purchaser. Should the auctioneer recognize two simultaneous bids on
an object, the lot will be put up for sale again and all those present in the sale room may participate in this second opportunity to bid.
