Notre paire de chenets est reproduite dans André-Charles Boulle, ébéniste de Louis XIV, par Calin Demetrescu, Dossier de l'art n° 224, décembre 2014, p. 29. Nous sommes honorés de pouvoir vous présenter cette paire de chenets qui fait référence à André-Charles Boulle pour ce modèle.
On doit le modèle de ces chenets à André-Charles Boulle (1642-1732),
« ébéniste, ciseleur, doreur, et sculpteur du Roi », qui en élabora le dessin publié par Mariette après 1707, dans un recueil de modèles intitulé Nouveaux desseins de meubles et ouvrages de bronze et de marqueterie inventés et graves par André-Charles Boulle .
Les deux chenets présentent une forme pyramidale et sont structurés autour d'une épaisse base unie à large ressaut central arrondie à ses extrémités. Celle-ci repose sur quatre volutes feuillagées reposant sur des petits pieds toupies.
Ces volutes enserrent un culot central de section carrée, ciselé de feuilles d'eau lancéolées, et faisant office de cinquième pied. Un principe qui n'est pas sans rappeler le système de piètement des premières commodes exécutées par André-Charles Boulle au cours de la même période. La partie supérieure est en forme d'obélisque surmonté d'une sphère et orné en façade d'un casque empanaché surplombant un imposant masque d'homme barbu. Deux demi-sphinx bordent
les terrasses latérales.
Le répertoire d'André-Charles Boulle s'inspira très largement de l'Antiquité (sphinx, casque, et masque), traité avec une veine résolument naturaliste (corps des sphinx, feuillages).
Ces chenets furent très certainement exécutés après 1707, lors de la publication de la seconde édition du célèbre recueil de Nouveaux desseins par Mariette. Le terme de Nouveaux desseins à propos des modèles de Boulle permet de penser que leur élaboration fut récente, une hypothèse que corrobore les modèles eux-mêmes qui appartiennent déjà, sur un plan stylistique, à ce style nouveau qu'on allait plus tard appeler Régence.

Purchasers pay in addition to the hammer price, a buyer's premium from 0 to e 500 000:
25,20% (21 % + VAT).
For amounts superior to e 500 000: 19% (15,83% + VAT).
Lots from outside the EEC: (indentified by an*). In addition to the commissions and taxes indicated above, an additional import VAT will be charged (7% of the hammer price, 20% for jewelry).
For any member of the EEC, non assembled stones are liable to VAT 20%.
The auctioneer is bound by the indications in the catalogue, modified only by eventual announcements made at the time of the sale noted into the legal records thereof. Prospective bidders should inspect the property before bidding to determine its condition, size, and wether or not it has been repaired, restored or repainted. Exhibitions prior to the sale at Marc-Arthur Kohn or on the sale point permits buyers to establish the condition of the works offered for sale, and therefore no claims will be accepted after the fall of the hammer. BIDS
Biddings will be in accordance with the lot numbers listed in the catalogue or as announced by the auctioneer, and will be in increments determined by the auctioneer. The highest and last bidder will be the purchaser. Should the auctioneer recognize two simultaneous bids on
an object, the lot will be put up for sale again and all those present in the sale room may participate in this second opportunity to bid.
