Le grand bronzier François Rémond a conçu ce superbe modèle de candélabres « aux griffons » en 1782. L'animal fantastique, au corps de lion et tête d'aigle, se tient fièrement assis sur une base de forme oblongue. L'art de Rémond apparaît au niveau de la ciselure du pelage, des ailes et du modelé de la musculature. Le socle est rythmé par des frises alternant palmettes ajourées et côtes torses. Au sommet de la tête de l'animal repose un binet d'où s'échappent deux bras de lumière bordés de feuillages. Chaque candélabre repose sur six pieds toupie. C'est au marchand-mercier Dominique Daguerre à qui l'on doit la diffusion de ce modèle auprès de la grande clientèle de la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Un semblable est mentionné dans l'un de ses livres de comptes, cédé pour la somme colossale de 650 livres.
En 1787, il ressort que sur les 12 paires de candélabres de ce type créés
par Rémond, 12 furent vendues à Daguerre. Rémond poursuivra la
réalisation de ce modèle probablement jusqu'en 1803, leur apportant
quelques modifications aisées à obtenir pour les maintenir au goût du
jour.A la fin du XVIIIe siècle, Rémond en livra une paire à la Princesse
Kinsky pour son hôtel particulier parisien qui figure aujourd'hui parmi
les collections du Château de Versailles, avec des bras de lumières
différents de ceux que nous présentons .Notons que le motif
de vannerie, de godrons et végétaux ornant le binet placé au dessus
de la tête du griffon est comparable à ceux visibles sur une paire de
flambeaux de Rémond en possession de la Wallace Collection .

Purchasers pay in addition to the hammer price, a buyer's premium from 0 to e 500 000:
25,20% (21 % + VAT).
For amounts superior to e 500 000: 19% (15,83% + VAT).
Lots from outside the EEC: (indentified by an*). In addition to the commissions and taxes indicated above, an additional import VAT will be charged (7% of the hammer price, 20% for jewelry).
For any member of the EEC, non assembled stones are liable to VAT 20%.
The auctioneer is bound by the indications in the catalogue, modified only by eventual announcements made at the time of the sale noted into the legal records thereof. Prospective bidders should inspect the property before bidding to determine its condition, size, and wether or not it has been repaired, restored or repainted. Exhibitions prior to the sale at Marc-Arthur Kohn or on the sale point permits buyers to establish the condition of the works offered for sale, and therefore no claims will be accepted after the fall of the hammer. BIDS

an object, the lot will be put up for sale again and all those present in the sale room may participate in this second opportunity to bid.
