Painting Depicting a Mythological Scene, Japan, Toshio Aoki (1853-1912), with a bearded man holding a fan in his right hand and with his left pointing at a woman in white robe standing on the hilltop to the right, signed "Dai Nihon Aoki T-ga," ink and light color on silk, 18 5/8 x 28 7/8, painting 10 1/2 x 21 in.

Note: Toshio Aoki is a Japanese nihonga artist who emigrated to San Francisco in the 1880s. His work has been recently shown in the exhibition Audacious Eye, held in 2014 at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the work entitled Shoki and Demons is in the collection of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.
