Description

Scene shows man and three children seated at base of large tree. Girl holds American flag. They look out over a panoramic landscape including mountains and lake with sailboat. Foreground has small cascading stream with plank bridge. Appears to have original frame. Brass plaque indicates artist and title. Jeremiah Hardy (1800-1887) lived in Bangor, Maine from 1835 through 1888. He was primarily a portrait painter but also did genre and other paintings. This particular painting was sold at Sotheby's Parke Bernet New York Sale # 1582 SIZE: 26-1/2" h x 34-1/2" w. CONDITION: Excellent. 9-79380.
